I think my love for working with and caring for young kids began as an early teenager. I have a lot of younger cousins and it would make my day when I got to spend time with them and make them laugh. As soon as I was old enough I began helping in the nursery and occasionally the children’s classes at my church. When I was sixteen I started a job at a local daycare, where I worked for about a year. I mainly worked in the nursery, but I helped with other age groups when needed. All four years in high school I would arrive at school forty minutes before classes started and I would watch the teacher’s kids while the teacher’s meeting was being held. My junior and senior year of high school I was involved in student leadership and helped plan and execute elementary events. The same Read more two years I was also a teacher’s aide. One class period a day I would go to a classroom and help wherever needed. My first year I spent in first grade, and the second I helped in fifth. Within these two years, I graded many papers, worked individually with students, and even led class a few times. I have also done a lot of babysitting throughout my teenage years. My experiences while working with children have led me to pursue a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in science at Liberty University. I am still in my first year, but I plan to graduate in a total of three years. I love working with kids because it is always exciting. You never truly know what a child is going to do or say which keeps you on your toes. Kids are hilarious and just generally fun to be around. Sometimes there are harder times but in my opinion, the love and friendship that grows between you and the child are completely worth it. From a teaching perspective, I love helping students with a difficult concept. It may get frustrating when explaining a concept multiple times, but when they finally reach that “light bulb” moment it’s all worth it.
