Growing up in a family of eight, I have been surrounded by kids of all ages for most of my life. I have four younger siblings and was the primary caretaker in my house when my parents were away. Along with looking after my younger siblings, I babysat for a number of families. Including families with twins and children of various age groups. During high school, I focused on late elementary and middle school aged kids. I worked with them by tutoring and being involved in after school activities. In college, I mainly worked with teens in academic progress and life coaching. My most challenging experience working with children occurred last summer in the Adirondacks. I lived with a family with eleven children. They had recently adopted five Peruvian children aging from ten years to sixteen years of age, who spoke little to no English. Daily, I was able to Read more work with them on their English while also providing relief for their parents. Overcoming the cultural and linguistic barriers required constant creativity and patience. It also challenged me to learn to multitask and pay attention to five energetic children at one time! Overall, this experience has thoroughly prepared me for future babysitting jobs.
