I am a 2018 Oak Harbor High School and Skagit Valley College Running Start graduate with high honors who will be entering the University of Washington as a junior this fall. Throughout my dual enrollment in high school and community college, I was an active member in academics, athletics, the arts, and my community. I am independent, responsible, and motivated, having moved away from home to continue my training in pre-professional ballet at the age of fourteen, and having to have made the difficult decision to focus on academics and my writing career after twelve years of ballet at the age of sixteen. During my time at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet where I moved for training after studying at Pacific Northwest Ballet, I managed a forty hour a week dance and rehearsal schedule alongside a full time honors academic schedule at the local high school. After moving back from Pennsylvania Read more to my hometown on Whidbey Island, I became an active member of my community through National Honor Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, National History Day, blogging, peer tutoring, and the creation of a local contest promoting literacy, "Read to Write." I also dove into athletics (cross country and track) and worked to become team captain and a lettering athlete senior year. My experience with teaching, tutoring and caring for kids is vast. I served as a Montessori School assistant at the Garden Isle Montessori (prek-3rd grade) from the ages of eleven to thirteen. I run a creative writing club for elementary school students (3rd and 4th grade) every year at Olympic View. I served for two years as a Big Sister to a 3rd and 4th grader who I helped with learning social skills, classroom behavior, and improving peer relationships. I have done group co-babysitting for NHS on the weekends. I also currently give ballet lessons to children ages five through nine. Finally, I have fluency in French, and would love to share my passion for this language with kids! I have two younger brothers (10 and 14), and multiple young cousins (ages 4-16). I have endless energy and interests, and am currently triathlon training, starting a blog for the editing agency and magazine Polyphony Lit, and learning the ukulele. There is always more to learn, share, and experience! *I will not be available this week of July on the 13th and 14th due to local racing in the Ragnar.
