I began working in the field in New York City as a caregiver, babysitter, and tutor. Daily duties included transportation/chaperoning to and from events (school, appointments, outings, etc.), administering medication, assistance in toileting as needed, homework help, assistance in the classroom as a one-on-one, and working with teachers, OTs/PTs, family, doctors, and other supports. I was considering pursuing a career as a paraprofessional before I moved to Anchorage. In Alaska I worked with Anchorage School District as a substitute teacher, before switching careers for a more consistent position at Covenant House Alaska, a shelter for youth experiencing homelessness. There I worked as a Youth Engagement Specialist (floor staff/DSP) for a year and a half, after which I applied and was hired for a case manager position. In addition to education and advocacy roles, I was working as professional musician, and teaching voice and music theory lessons out of my home.
