Meet Colleen

I have always loved being around kidos and taking care/hanging out with them, however during my senior year of high school was when I came to the realization of the extent of my love for caregiving. What started out as a 70 hour min senior project of community service, turned into the best part of my week. I volunteered at Seattle Children's hospital weekly (and on holidays) for 3-6 hours. Being at Seattle Children's Hospital taught me so much, but the most important lesson I learned was that all kids need to have fun in their life, wether that be a more low key activity such as having princess day where we paint nails and have a tea party, or go outside and run around. Seattle Children's gave me the wisdom of learning how to match my energy level to the level of the kids I spent time with, allowing Read more them to control the situation in a safe environment. One of my favorite experiences was holding the babies and playing with the toddlers, their optimism and curiosity always brightens my day. My other experiences include working as an Alki Parks and Recreation summer school art assistant, and babysitting throughout high school. Working as a assistant art teacher was amazing; I am a very artsy and creative person, and i love creating art with kids and helping them to develop their 'creative side'. When i babysit kids, I always try to have an art activity planed or an 'adventure of the day' planed; making paper flowers, painting, making a bedazzled picture frame, going to the park, going to the zoo...ect. My number one goal when I spend time with kids is to have fun in a safe environment!
