I have six years of professional childcare experience. I want to be a longer term nanny or babysitter because it will give me a new opportunity to bond with just a few children long term instead of just a week or two. As part of my work as an outdoor educator at the Pali Institute, I was solely responsible for groups of nine to seventeen children for 23 hours of the day. I ensured they all wore jackets, remembered their water bottles, treated each other gently, and ate something other than french fries. There were nights when instead of sleeping I spent hours soothing a homesick girl. Conversely, there were mornings when through some miracle my kids cleaned their table with no supervision from me. Furthermore, I’ve worked as a tutor and teaching assistant for a large variety of science and math classes, both introductory and advanced. I was also Read more a live-in residential coordinator for a science camp, a position that included guiding high school students through their own field research and teaching them how to cook and plan their own meals. As part of my semester abroad, I taught a math review class to a group of seventy teenagers that had enough English among all of them to write a greeting card. In all these positions, I proved myself patient and capable of managing both myself and others calmly and flexibly during a crisis. I truly am qualified to handle almost any emergency: I currently work as am EMT for American Medical Response and am certified in Child and Infant CPR and first aid. I’ve not yet been called upon to use any of these skills in a life-threatening situation, but should that day come I am more than prepared. I love teaching my kids both outdoor skills (the names of constellations, how to identify poison ivy, or making forts out of leaves and sticks) and indoor ones (basic cooking, friendship bracelets, or even haikus). I would love to excel at a number of roles in your household: customized and reliable childcare, experienced tutor, especially with math and science, pet care, light cleaning and chef of Italian dinners and homemade pies. love being silly and having fun. I hope I'm the right fit for your family.
