I love working with kids for two reasons: first, it's a blast to be silly and creative with them---to make them laugh, to laugh with them, to play pretend and take part in the worlds their beautiful imaginations invent; and second, I love getting to observe and support the development of their brilliant little minds. I love asking them questions and watching their gears turn, and I feel privileged to be in a position to encourage and teach them, to show them love and compassion, and to witness the wonderful things they say, do, and create. In 2013 I graduated from UW with a double degree in Biology and Psychology, and since then I have been working at the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club as Education Coordinator and a Youth Development Specialist (i.e. after-school counselor) for 4th and 5th graders. I also occasionally work with K-3rd grade and middle Read more schoolers. Over the past five years, I have logged at least 200 hours doing casual sitting for family friends with kids age 2 to 14. I became a science nerd in college, but I grew up doing a lot of community theater and music, and I love passing both of these passions on to kids. When sitting, I love to create opportunities for kids to learn about the natural world and/or use their imaginations. Sometimes that means taking them outside and making a game out of noticing and identifying plants and animals, and other times that means bringing my ukulele and doing a little sing-along. I look forward to meeting and hanging out with your awesome kids!
