I am currently working on a Masters in Occupational Therapy at UW. I am interested in working with children with special needs after I finish my degree. Before I began school I was a Lead Teacher at Childhaven, a therapeutic preschool for children recovering from neglect and abuse. In my work at Childhaven I taught coping skills and provided therapeutic support to my students while leading a fun and engaging emergent pre-academic curriculum. I loved my work at Childhaven and I am looking for additional work to supplement my income while providing nurturing, positive care as a babysitter. Prior to my work at Childhaven I served for two years as a Special Education teacher in Jordan with the Peace Corps, where I worked directly with a group of 25 children with special needs, aged 3-22. I also provided support to a staff of fifteen special education teachers in areas including Read more curriculum development, behavior management training, creative lesson planning, and community inclusion. I graduated in 2011 from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Honors Psychology with a research focus on the development of emotional regulation in toddlers whose mothers had been diagnosed with mental illness. While in college I worked for a year in a preschool classroom as part of the Americorps Jumpstart program, where I provided group lesson planning, individual mentoring and support to four year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds. Currently I am interested in building on these experiences to continue to focus my work in early education for all types of learners. Through my work as an educator I have received extensive training. I am Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified. I am also certified in Applied Behavior Management through Autism Training Solutions. I have also completed the STARS Early Educator’s 30-Hour Training through Washington State Certification Program. I think my experiences working with young children in from different cultures and backgrounds with a diversity of learning styles has given me the flexibility and experience to work with all kinds of learners and their families. I am passionate about providing positive, nurturing educational experiences to young children and I would love the opportunity to work with your family.
