Hello! After spending the past 18 years in the IT realm, I'm currently seeking a more altruistic job working with homeless youth. Unfortunately, non-profits move very slowly when it comes to hiring, so in the meantime I thought I'd make some money doing something I've always enjoyed & have a great deal of experience in - working with kids!!! I'm looking for either a part-time/occasional position for an indefinite period of time, or a full-time, temporary position (for the next 3 to 4 months). Depending on circumstances I'd be willing to continue working as a full-time caregiver or nanny indefinitely if needed and the situation is amenable. A few of the highlights of my background include: * I'm eldest of 5 children who are 4, 8, 10, and 12 yrs younger than me (2 brothers - 1 LD, and one ADHD; 2 sisters - 1 has lupus, and the other Read more suffers severe depression) -- I spent a huge portion of my youth helping take care of my siblings. * I've been babysitting since 10 for a wide variety of ages - my 10th birthday present was the money required to take the CPR and first aid babysitting training course offered at our community center. I was SO excited to get to watch children who were not my siblings (in my family my parents believed babysitting for your siblings was not 'a job', but expected - so I took every babysitting job I could simply to earn a few dollars for all my work :-) ). * I've been a live-in nanny for a 10 yr old ADHD boy; a pair of girls ages 7 & 11; and a group of 4 siblings ages 14 months, 3 years, 5 years and 6 years. * I had my daughter at 20 and she's now 20 :-) She and I are best friends and live together in a studio in downtown Seattle. * During my 4 years of college I spent every Sunday working for at least 3 hours in the nursery at my church caring for anywhere from 4 children to 20 children between the ages of newborn to 8. * During my summers for my years of college I worked at a Montessori Daycare full-time and helped take care of kids from the age of 18 months to 5 years. Along with teaching arts & crafts, I spent a few hours each day working with special needs children including one autistic child and one child with severe ADHD. *Over the past 20 years I've tutored reading for children in grades K-5 and tutored math/science/SAT topics at the high school level.
