I am a mom to two girls ages 17 and 10. Both girls are unusually smart. While I cannot take credit for their intelligence, I believe there are plenty of activities that can spark intelligence. Something as simple as reading a book, playing music or creating art. Both of my girls were preemies, born at week 32. 3lb babies, so I would consider myself to be reliable, gentle and tolerant as a caregiver. My last CPR course was when my daughter came home from the NICU. I enjoy children of all ages, from the tiniest all the way up to teens. My speciality for kids over age 2 is art. I have kaboodles of ways to have fun with art. If not, I am capable of finding something to do when it appears there is nothing at all to do. Growing up I spent my summers babysitting two neighborhood boys. Read more I was only 11 when I started and they were 6 months and 2 years old. It was a huge responsibility, but each year became a little bit more exciting as I watched them grow up. The summers continued until I was sixteen and then I babysat on weekends only. My favorite question in my teens was when the parents would ask, "what are you doing that is making my kids want you to babysit? " They would explain that their kids would jump up and down and squeal in delight over me coming over to babysit. It brought a smile to my face because there really wasn't a magical wand I waived, but simply by nature I have a good time. Even with my own kids now, most of the time, we are able to have a good time whether its walking our overly excited dog or creating art that reflects our emotions. I am looking for flexibility in my schedule so that I can focus on quality time with my kids own kids. Babysitting gives me that flexibility.
