Meet Makayla

Growing up I was always raised around livestock, and grew up on a small modest ranch. I have multiple responsibilities, feeding the horses and cattle, adjusting their grain rations, doctoring them, watering them even on the most frigid days or the the most scorching hot ones. I am accountable to them as they depend on me. Ever since I was younger, I was involved in the 4-H organization. I started showing in the “pewee” division. Although my steers were a foot taller than me, I managed to develop a bond, and a strong connection within my livestock. This sparked me to continue showing and it fueled my competitive edge. I then continued to show market livestock, and each year I would consistently work on my fitting abilities, showmanship in the ring, and animal carcass selection process. Although finding steers and picking them out was challenging, yet rewarding, I decided I Read more wanted to raise my own herd of show cattle. Despite the industry being extremely difficult and hard to navigate, I managed to purchase some show heifers from the National Western Stock Show, and start cultivating my own herd. I did a lot of research on the different sires I could potentially use, the ones with the highest show quality, but also had a low birth weight. Choosing combinations that could ultimately produce an amazing genetic quality was something so special to me. I could essentially create a calf to the best of my ability to suit the show world needs. I a.i.ed some of my heifers, and began to produce show calves. The most rewarding experience is to see they turn out, seeing the structure of the calf, personality, and different traits that they each acquire. I have shown in FFA since I started my high school career, and have been ever since. I enjoy competing at jackpots and different shows to hear different opinions on my cattle. I have discovered that I find joy in being able to be outside daily and interacting with them, each animal has a special place in my heart, and I strive to compete at the highest possible quality. Ultimately, this is how I came to a realization about my career pathway, I want to do something I’m passionate about.
