Growing up constantly surrounded by other children, I learned to love spending time with other people. I began watching my neighbors at the age of 11 for an hour or two at a time. Throughout grade school my parents friends relied on me for babysitting constantly, knowing and being friends the children made it even more fun for me. The summer going into Junior year of high school I began a job as camp counselor at the Creek Club on Long Island, New York. From this job I got to know a lot of the families very well, babysitting for many of the children after camp hours. I became very familiar with a family of four children who spend their summers on Long Island. I ended up working for the family the rest of that summer, and also the following two summers. This took up most of my time, so Read more I did not return to be a counselor the next year. I worked my hours beginning at 7:30 or 8 in the morning, until anywhere from 6 to 8 at night (could be considered nannying since 40+ hours each week). Activities included driving all four children back and forth to camp, tennis and golf lessons, Kumon classes, math learning centers and friends houses. My favorite part of the job was the relationships I formed with each of the children from the amount of time we spent together. I think what made me good at this job was that even though sometimes difficult, since the children and I became so close we could understand hard times and bad moods, yet enjoy good days together. I loved this most because while I was working, I was also happy to spend my day with them. After that summer they returned to their hometown for the school year, where I would also babysit during breaks and other vacations they spent on Long Island. The summer before I went to college I spent with the same family, this time traveling back and forth to their summer home out east when I was needed. I was happy to make the trip to spend time with the children and finding fun things for them to do in this new area. While not with this family, I continued to babysit for other families I met at The Creek Club and family friends. My love and patience for children allows me to happily find time in my schedule for the parents I have met when I am needed. Now in college, I am looking for a new family who I can spend most of my time home with this summer. *Willing to travel to the city*
