I've worked with children all my life, from growing up in a family of 9 kids, to helping babysit my new born nephew while my sister attended college. I volunteered at a summer camp, called Ourdoor Outreach, for underprivileged kids during the summers of 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. From February 2015 to June 2015 I worked through the YMCA at elementary schools in Beloit, WI with the after school care program. The summer of 2016 I worked at The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee with children ages 6-17. I was the first underage staff member that has ever been hired at Camp Whitcomb/Mason, at the age of 17, they saw through my previous experience with children and my passion toward them that I would be a valuable asset to their staff and they decided to bend the rules for the first time for me! I was so Read more grateful and did everything i could to prove that being 17 had nothing to do with how well i did my job as a program generalist. At the end of the summer they pulled my aside and offered me a full time position as a program specialist, that I had to gratefully decline due to my schooling. Seeing how close I was to graduating, I didn't want to just push school off. I have had three jobs that have not had anything to do with children and have come to realize that children are my calling. Working for the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA, plus volunteering through Outdoor Outreach has given me a understanding of the need children have for something greater, not only in Milwaukee but also back in Beloit too. Me being 18, I realize theres not much I can do, but just be their friend and a role model in their life, while also helping them to to better themselves through their schooling and their lives at home. Showing them that keeping their room clean, helping mom with dishes, or helping with their little brother/sister are not only good ways to start growing good habits and morals, but learning that helping others is helping yourself too! I am Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First-aid certified.
