Joan’s Bio
My experience comes from working at the VA Roseburg Healthcare Center for the past 11 years. This was in the Laboratory and Pathology Department but I also dealt with the patients and veteran volunteers. I was a Histologist. Histology technicians provide a vital service to pathologists by processing tissue specimens and creating the slides pathologists examine under a microscope to either identify or dismiss disease. This job allowed me to have day to day contact with the Veterans, relaying the microscopic diagnosis to the physicians for followup care. I also was involved with my mother's illness prior to her passing away. This involved bandaging, creating a medication and dose chart to alleviate confusion occurring with the vast amount of prescriptions prescribed, distributing the medications, food preparation and running errands. I previously worked for a healthcare agency. My duties: companionship, med. reminder, lt. housekeeping, meal prep;), laundry, errands, Dr. appts., bath care. I then proceeded to private in-house home health care.
