Heather’s Bio
I have 15 years of paid experience in some capacity of childcare. I babysat from the beginning of middle school through my graduate college years for numerous families, both short and long term, for children and teenagers of all different ages (2 months through 16 years), races, religions, genders, and needs, while holding other, more formal FT and PT jobs. I began working with children professionally in 2014, where I first held a position at a summer day camp for children between 2 and 14 years of age, and then progressed into a position as an Enrichment Instructor, Counseling Coordinator, and key member of the administrative team for an after school program in an urban Massachusetts district with a heavy emphasis on social and emotional based learning, where I stayed until my move to San Diego in February of this year! I enjoy working with kiddos of all ages, and exploring their interests in holistic, fun, and educational ways, as they progress through developmental stages!
My degrees were both obtained from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst: M.Ed. in School Counseling and B.S. in Psychology. As such, I have extensive knowledge and educational training of different developmental trajectories from early childhood to late adulthood, behavioral modification strategies, and the importance of socio-emotional health in all facets of life! I have developed several curricula during my education and work experience designed to work with children on understanding important life skills (things such as friendship/empathy building, diversity awareness and acceptance, financial literacy, and even sexual health-- obviously these topics very much depend on age/maturity level, context, and needs). I also have experience tutoring students from 1st grade through Sophomore year of college and offering homework help as needed, both formally and informally, if this is something that is of interest to you. I am fully comfortable assisting with ADLs and administering medication.
I am willing and able to provide meal preparation and housecleaning. I LOVE and with all types of animals, and am not only very comfortable around them, but also am able to provide care for them as well, if needed. I do not smoke and I do have reliable, insured transportation and excellent references.
I would love to discuss how I can help meet all your needs for you or your loved ones!
