Jocelyne’s Bio
As a premedical student, caring for others is something that drives what I do. I believe that serving others whether that is through health or making someone smile gives you a purpose and is a sign of love.
My experience as a care companion was most prominent when I took care of my grandmother for three years when she suffered from lymphoma and a number of other illnesses. Supporting her from even the most basic activities such as brushing her teeth, preparing her food, brushing her hair was something that molded me into a compassionate individual. I am more than willing to do so for anyone.
Although there is a dearth in my certification, I have a bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Spanish from Ohio Wesleyan University. I have worked for a year at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in a team that produces gene therapy drugs for genetic diseases. I have volunteered for four years at a free medical clinic and have experienced care for others from all backgrounds. Another major experience was when I volunteered for three years at a zootherapy organization where I interacted and assisted children with neurological conditions through horse rehabilitation. This experience developed my interest in rehabilitation, health sciences, and pursuing a career involving improving people's’ wellbeing. Working as a Physical Therapy Technician, I also saw myself as a care companion by assisting others in there rehabilitation process.
As a post-bacc student I am full of energy, eager to learn and am on my toes. I am confident others would describe me as positive, and radiating enthusiasm. My core values are respect, love, and integrity. Being intrinsically motivated and passionate are characteristics that describe me and I believe makes a world of difference.
Ikigai, a japanese term that basically means finding a purpose in life. Serving others is my purpose, it is a reason to wake up. Through my experience serving others, I have realized I have also been positively impacted and empowered me to grow into a empathetic, nurturing person. Ties extend and form into companionship and friendship. It becomes more than a job, it becomes a fulfillment.
