Intermittent companionship and care assistant with the elderly throughout my life. I cared for my mother for six years in my home after her kidney removal, - from her 86th year until she passed at 92 years; and tended to two of her friends on occasion as well.  Sometimes, with her friends, we would just visit, have refreshments and talk, go on little field trips to get them out, go to lunches at local restaurants once a week, helped with their household chores, bank, shopping and medical trips, etc.  Visited shut-ins at the local rest home on a regular basis, and would visit as many as time allowed to bring them cheer, listen to their stories, and sometimes brought my tiny poodle along to visit too. Years back, my husband, my pianist and I would go to rest homes and entertain the shutins.  I would love to be still singing to them and with them.
Since 2006 I have saved the lives of two elderly friends, one of whom was living in our lower level for 8 years, and is now with her daughter.  The other is back in her own home and fairly self sufficient.

Back in the 90s, when I was actively selling real estate for custom builders in the greater Denver area and beyond, I had two elderly people whom I visited with on a regular basis to "check in" to take care of things that were needed while their family members were at work, and several times a year I was called upon to spend a weekend with each of them when the families traveled.
