Patricia’s Bio
Since moving to Florida 4 years ago, I have had the opportunity to be a companion to a feisty 97 year old lady, who kept me in my toes! My duties were to, basically keep her occupied, by cinversation, card games, and dominos, and to accompany her in walks. Also, I took care of a 60ish woman who had 5 strokes. My duties with her were to help her become more active, and work with her, doing physical therapy exercises. I also took over the household duties, such as laundry, cookibg, and general house work.
My further experience involved caring for my own mother fir 10 years prior to her death. She had a great many needs, such as dressing changes, IV fluid maintenance, an ostomy appliance, medication administeration.
Although I am disabled myself, (I have a bad back), I don't let that slow me down too much, I believe it's better to move through some pain, than to sit and give in to it.
I trained as a Medical Assistant close to 30 years ago, before they had "certifications", and I put my training to work at several local hospitals as a Unit Secretary, Nurses Aid, and as a Cardiac Monitor Technician.
I have a great respect for our senior community, and I truly believe we can learn a lot from their lifes exoerience.
