I gained senior care experience in my early 20's assisting an elderly gentlemen after he had fallen and suffered an injury. I was also employed for 4 years as a Direct Support Associate in a residential home in New York state and for 2 years in North Carolina as a Residential Counselor. These assignments were nearly identical in their job descriptions. Both details introduced me to a variety of new challenges because I was having to address the needs of more than one individual at a time, so having excellent listening and multitasking skills helped me to succeed as a team member. I have charted progress reports and administered medication. I have also assisted clients with personal care, transfers, meal preparation, house keeping, assistance to doctor's appointments, as well as provided companionship and encouragement.
