I'm a mother of 2 with 3 grandchildren in which I have custody of my 7 you grandson. I was a single mom and did just fine. I worked in Law Enforcement for almost 15 years. I left my Career to take care of my dear father who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2012 . I took care of him as long as I could by myself. I eventually had to hire round the clock care for him including Hospice. I did keep him at home never once thought of putting Him in a facility. My father passed away ,October 13th 2015. I miss Him dearly. I started private Home Healthcare in July 2015,I was sitting with an 85 you female . She had broke her hip then led into arthritis setting in to a cracked pelvic and she had several fractured vertebrae. She already had Dementia. Things I done with her, assisted with bathing,eating,walking ,getting in and out of bed and chairs,assisted with dressing ,also getting to and from bathroom. I assisted with medication. I did light house cleaning for her needs. Washing dishes,laundry,sweeping and moping. I also prepared breakfast and sometimes lunch. She was a delight to be around we talked about everything ,watched TV together,colored together,Sat outside and listened to old music with I enjoyed. I loved this lady and tried to do all I could to make things pleasant for her. I would do anything to have her back with us. The Good Lord called her home on Aug 14th 2016. I miss her. I love elderly people they have alot to tell in there years and each one is unique in there on way. I never thought about doing this kind of work until my father came down I'll. I do get attached and emotional easy that is my down fall. It is good for the patient and family but rough on me in the end.
