I became a CNA in 2011 after caring for three family members that were battling cancer. I was a young girl while helping my mother care for my grandmom when she was battling cancer, and from then on I knew that this is what I wanted to be and do. I attained my CNA, I’ve worked in both the home and facility setting, and I much prefer the home setting. With the home atmosphere, I’m not as rushed, I can give my full attention to the client and their needs, and the client is a person rather than just a number.

I have been trained and have cared for clients with several diseases, such as cancer, COPD, CHF, Cirrhosis, Diabetes, Renal failure, amputees, Parkinson’s, Post-Stroke, and more. I am also adequately trained in catheter care, administering insulin, bathing, feeding, ambulation, continence care, recording vitals, and companionship.

I have over 8 years of experience doing this job, and I am blessed to be able to care for the often forgotten age group that deserve to be treated with respect and kindness and deserve to be heard. I love to interact with my clients, whether it’s a card game, baking a cake, watching a tv program, or listening to stories from the past. I am also very attentive to the client’s daily behavior and their skin (if I’m assisting with bathing or dressing) to make sure of any changes or breakdown that might require medical attention.

My main priority with my clients is always their safety. I make sure they are properly fed, that their meds are being taken as prescribed, that they are bathed and their skin is taken care of, and that they get to enjoy some socialization.
