I have been hired and worked as a personal care assistant previously for three different individuals: a young man with cerebral palsy, a child with muscular dystrophy, and an adult with a spinal cord injury. As a P. C. A. I helped these individuals attend to their everyday living needs by assisting them with toileting, transfers, dressing/undressing, eating, and general moving. I also assisted them frequently with specific activities such as using the computer/telephone, participating in athletics, and driving them to/from appointments. On occasion, I have also assisted others whose mobility was limited by obesity and old age. My experiences working as a P. C. A. have been personally rewarding for me. It is inspiring for me to see individuals turn their challenges into triumphs and to know that I have been a facilitator in that process by helping them to get through their day.
