Ciara S. Care Companion in Chicopee, MA 01020

Hi, my name is Ciara and I am currently a senior at University of Massachusetts in Amherst. I am a Public Health major planning to go on to grad school to become a physician's assistant. Helping others has always been something that I have a passion for. Since I was 12, I have been babysitting my younger siblings and cousins as well as cooking for them, bathing, and changing diapers. I also have experience interacting with children and adolescents with a wide range in age (a few weeks to 24 years old) and cognitive abilities through volunteering at Baystate Medical Center on the pediatric floor. Activities I did in my role as a volunteer included looking after patients while their family was out, doing arts and crafts, feeding babies, and playing games with younger children to keep them happy and entertained during the stay in the hospital. I have also spent a week volunteering in Haiti this past January, 2018. I worked with a group of other students to run a clinic and provide free health care and health education to members of a local village. I helped diagnose and treat people of all ages with various medical conditions, which taught me about different medications and the effects of certain diseases. Providing care to other people is something that I really love and I put my whole heart into everything that I do. I am CPR certified and trained on basic first aid. Right now I am available on weekends, but will be graduating this May and taking a year off before going to PA school, so my availability will open up.
