I am a single mother of two young men, ages 12 and 20. I am looking for a position to care for a senior. I cared for my nanny who suffered from Alzheimer for 3+ years. I bathed, dressing, cooked and feed her. I did house work, laundry and made sure her medicines were taken on time. I made sure her surroundings were to her liking (sometimes change would cause her to lash out). I learned to deal with my nanny who became verbally abusive toward the end of her illness. There were times that she became violent toward me and others. I had to learn not to take her angry behavior personally. I respected her demands, even though they seemed petty to me. I could not always control her behavior but I did control my responses to her. I did not downplay her feelings and I asked questions like "what can I do to make things better". I always gave her personal space and stay calm in any given situation. I prayed a lot, went to support groups and also took up meditation which helped me not only deal with nanny but also life situations in a calmer manner. There were definitely, rough times and good times caring for my nanny but I wouldn't change it for the world. I would love to care for your loved one as I did my nanny.
