I have yet to Nanny, but am looking forward to this. I have a step brother with Johanson Blizzard Syndrome and a cousin with Autism and is Bipolar. When I first meet Sammy I was 12 and he was 4. I didn't know much about Johanson Blizzard, I just knew he was not verbal. Sammy was diabetic and epileptic. His parents were told that he would never talk or walk. This little boy changed my life!! He opened my eyes and heart. By the time I was 14, I became his summer babysitter. Babysitting for Sammy Consisted of changing diapers, checking his sugar levels every couple hours, give him insulin and his epileptic medication. As tough as it could be, I would not change any of it. My second year of High School, I became a peer mentor in the special needs room, and continued with that until I graduated. The end of my senior year I started working at a daycare and never did go to college for special education, like I planned. The daycare was enough at that time. The gratification that I got from the children was all I needed. I love watching the kids enjoy learning. I enjoy hands on projects when it comes to teaching the students. Most of the kids I started with are off to school now and I am ready for a change.
