I cared for a very sweet compassionate elderly lady for two years. Before i had started working for her i attended a Health Occupations class. It was through my local highschool. The teacher was very clear on every aspect of caring for someone elderly or even just disabled. During the time of working for Mrs. Charlotte i learned many things that will help me throughout my life. For one she taught me how to garden, something i had never been passionate about until i met her. She taught me how to be more compassionate and empathetic. i cleaned and dusted her home daily. I assisted her in eating daily, giving her medicine and insulin at allotted times. Helped her with her personal hygiene. Read to her when her eyes got tired. Assisted in bathing. And overall was there to keep her very young spirit alive. I originally got into home care because I've always wanted to be a nurse. It runs in my family. I know how serious and helpful it is to keep anyones dignity when they can no longer provide for themselves. I grew up in hospitals and nursing homes. My grandmother has been a nurse for over 30 years. So basically its in my bloodline. I love elderly people especially because they know the joys and simplicity of life. It brings joy to my heart to be able to care for them. Mrs. Charlotte was the very first elderly person i cared for, and she taught me how to do it right.
