I have worked in medical field for over 25 years. I have worked as a Rehabalition Technician 15 of those years, I do know how to keep elders active and engaged, I will take walks, help with chair exercises, and what ever activity they would express interest in.
When I was the Rehab Tech the majority of my patients were over the age of 70. I also aided in the activities of Daily Living assisting with grooming, dressing and eating if I was assisting with stroke patients, or Alzheimer's patients.
My mother had Alzheimer's Disease, I cared for her while I worked full time at the hospital. I kept her avtive and engaged she only had four or five bouts of not remembering who i was or where she was. I accredit this to my training at the hospital knowing how to redirect and when that did not work just to let her alone until it passed. When I could not get her to redirect the episodes would last anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day. I would make sure she was safe and secure where she would not wander off.
I am CPR certified. I can do light house work and light cooking.
I enjoy working with elders, I love their stories and enjoy their company.
