Hello my name is Sandy. I am CPR and First Aid Certified, a non-smoker and have a clean driving record.
I was a caregiver for my mom for about 7 years. After my dad passed things totally changed for my mom. Basically all of her life it was just her and my dad. My dad worked a lot so there really wasn’t time for them to socialize with others. My mom would not live with my sister or myself because she said “all families need their own space and she loved her home”. My mom did not drive. I became more than a daughter; I became her caregiver in her home. I would take my mom grocery shopping, to doctor appointments, hair appointments, make her meals and pay her bills. But most of all, I was there when she needed a companion! I understand that just doing things doesn’t mean anything if there isn’t compassion behind what you are doing. After about 7 years my mom was showing signs of Alzheimer’s and we soon needed to put her in an Assisted Living Home. It was not safe for her when I wasn’t there. I am a very loving and compassionate person and feel that I could make a difference in someone’s life.
I still hold a Long Term Care insurance license and therefore I realize the need for homecare. We all like to know we can be independent. Keeping a loved one in their home for as long as possible will allow them to remain at home where they are most comfortable.
I am a nanny for a prominent surgeons amazing family. I started when the girls were 3 and 9. The youngest daughter is now 8. I pick her up from school and help her with homework. When homework is finished we do arts and crafts, play games, cook and just do girl things. The oldest daughter has out grown the need for a nanny but I still pick her up from school, take her to doctors, dentist, orthodontists appointments, and sometimes to a friend’s house. For the family, I prepare 1-2 meals a week for them and also do the laundry for the girls.
Until May 27, my schedule is 3:00pm to 6:00pm each weekday except Wednesday, when I will be working 2:30pm to 6:00pm. This will again be my schedule when school resumes in late August.
My schedule for the summer for the girls is 9:00am to 1:00pm each day of the week except Wednesday, when I will be working noon to 6:30pm.
As you can see, I am available a lot of afternoons and Wed. morning.
I believe that I can and have made a difference in people’s lives and hope to continue.
