When I was 18, I was the caregiver for my grandmother who had had a stroke from giving her a bath, feeding her, made sure she was secure in the hospital bed at night to just letting her know that I still loved her.
I was a single mother of a boy who was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder after he started the first grade. He was so hyper that his principal brought him home from school as they couldn't do anything with him. I made him an appointment with his primary doctor who did diagnose him with having ADHD.
After moving up to NH in 2005, I met one of my neighbors' who had suffered with two types of cancer among other medical issues. We became good friends to the point that after I had lost my son in 2008 and was going on vacation in 2009, she defied doctors' orders to go with me and she talked about that being the best vacation she had ever had up until she passed away a few years back.
I helped one an older woman, Evelyn, who went to church with me. I helped give her a shower, cooked for her , cleaned the house, did her laundry to watching TV with her. We would go on outings from shopping to going to the movies.......
I also had a companion job up in New Boston being a companion to an elderly man who was living with his son and his wife, helping him to take a shower, doing his laundry, making sure he took his medications and fixing him a sandwich......up until they decided to put him into a nursing home.......
I would say that I have many LIFE experiences to account for my training and my gifts of caring, being protected of whomever I am with (like they are my own family) dependable, honest, hardworking and flexible.
