I am a 21 year old student currently attending the Fashion Institute of Technology for Fashion Merchandise Management. I started in the healthcare field in 2012 as a home health aide in Pennsylvania, my hometown where I just moved from, taking care of the elderly within their homes. I was also a full time student attending Northampton Community College for my general studies. As a home health aide I took care of several patients at one time: running errands for them, light cleaning, preparing meals, transporting them to and from appointments, bathing and changing, etc. After a few months I also started to work in an assisted living/ retirement home as a resident service assistant. At this job I assisted the elderly with daily living activities such as helping them to bed, assisting with showers, reminders to take medication, etc. After almost a year I quit my job as a home health aide to get my license as a certified nursing aide and started to work in the nursing home, in the mean time I kept my job as a resident service assistant at the retirement home. In the nursing home residents are total dependent so I do everything for them: showers, dressing, grooming, transfers, taking vitals, documentation on their daily activities and behavior, etc. I moved from PA to NY in January 2015 to continue college so I quit both jobs, just recently over the summer I have returned back to the nursing home as a CNA. I currently attend school and work as a CNA.
