Ashleigh’s Bio
Much of the experience I have in companion care comes from taking care of a close family relative for over 2 years during the latter half of my college career. She has multiple sclerosis and I assist her with light housework, stretching her limbs and completing her exercises, making sure she takes her medications on time, cooking meals 1-2 times per week, and anything else she needs help with. Furthermore, the time I have spent with her as her disease becomes progressively worse has taught me much about the importance of preserving the dignity of elderly and sick individuals when giving care. I’ve gained a considerable amount of patience and flexibility from teaching her things, such as computer skills and assisting her with her many community projects. I have utilized my intuitiveness to be sensitive to even her smallest needs, and would love to do the same for your family member.
Recently I have began learning about disability theory and I hope to apply this knowledge to my daily life and eldercare/companion care practice.
I try to utilize my creative background into my time with her when helping with the many community events she participates in. For example, she recently had an event that required centerpieces and placeholders. Because multiple sclerosis has effected her fine motor skills, I did the more intricate steps and allocated the easier tasks to her. I constantly learn a lot from her and value the things the teaches me, which is why I enjoy being a care companion!
