I was primary caregiver for my mother, who died two years ago at the age of 98 while on home hospice care for more than a year. Prior to caring for my mom, I made weekly visits at a nursing home for several years. Since her death, I have done some home health care work as a fill-in for an aide on vacation. I have several elderly friends whom I see on a regular basis. My experience with people who struggle with dementia and Alzheimer's disease has made me more compassionate and patient.
