Hello! Recently, I had the opportunity to move to the Tulsa area! I had careers as a teacher and with Social Security. I work at a variety of flexile contract positions while studying and saving for my real estate license. As a young adult, my family lived several hours away. My grandma's health and age began to weigh on the family. It was hard in the small community and with the lack of internet resources at the time, to find someone to spend time with my grandma. My aunt took care of her, having little relief. I made plans to visit when I could. I looked after her a bit when she had her leg amputated, but found the thing she needed most was companionship... Someone to talk with, share stories, and discuss headlines.
This is the first time I am exploring the opportunity to care for an adult, or elderly individual. I have little formal experience or training, except for family and friends. I feel that I would be a good companion for any adult. I enjoy spending time with others, playing games, cooking, and could do light housework, and help with mail and little errands. I am not comfortable lifting people (other than providing assistance), bathing people, or providing medical care (besides a Band-Aid, or reminding of medication).
I moved here from Baltimore with my husband and our two dogs and three cats. Prior to our move, I worked for several years at Social Security Headquarters as an analyst for the disability program. I moved there from Louisiana, where I had taken and processed disability claims with the agency. Prior to that, I was a teacher. We moved to San Diego with hopes of living a more enjoyable life, in a warmer climate!
I love animals, like I said, we have 5! I am comfortable going on short drives with people. I am available for part time, as needed - perhaps a few hours a week to give the full time caretaker a break.
