For the past three years, I have been assisting older adults...transporting and accompanying them to medical appointments, shopping, movies, museums, and enjoying many beautiful sights and settings in and around Portland.
Ever since high school (over 30 yrs ago!), when I was assigned a project of interviewing a "senior" in my community, I quickly learned that there were amazing, rich, life stories & wisdom laying dormant in the hearts and still very sharp minds of our oldest community members. I studied wellness & fitness in college (earned a B.S. in Health Education, and became certified by American College of Sports Medicine). Since 1989, I have taught fitness and wellness programs to groups and individuals of all ages (5 month old babies to 94 year old seniors) in a wide variety of settings: corporate employee fitness centers, managed mental health care centers, private fitness clubs, YWCA, Independent Senior Communities, Yoga studios, and private homes. I have always felt comfortable around older adults and truly do enjoy spending time with them. I am friendly and have always had the ability to put people at ease (my background/education in Stress Mgmt & relaxation, as well as both of my parents having careers in helping professions likely contribute to my ability & interest in helping others to take better care of themselves). I am easily approachable, meet people on their present level, and most people feel comfortable around me.
