Thank you for your time in reviewing my information. I am very interested in working with your family.
About myself: I recently retired from thirty-three years working at Pennsbury Schools as a Special Education teacher. There I worked with students of all age levels – elementary to high school. I have taught learning disabled and emotionally disturbed as well as severely cognitively impaired. I also spent four years as a vocational evaluator with Pennsbury (evaluating student’s strengths/needs for employment and/or careers). Additionally, at various times, I ran student counsel, worked with Odyssey of the Mind, couched elementary soccer, and even wrote and directed two plays for non-verbal intellectually disabled middle and high-school students (presented to parents, family and teachers – many with tears in their eyes).
I have a degrees in elementary and special education from LaSalle University.
I believe I have worked in nearly every area of human services – individual care, group supervision and residential care.
In addition to Pennsbury, my experience includes (but is not even limited to):
* Live-in counselor at Wordsworth Academy. Responsible for the oversight care and emotionally well-being of six special education residential high-school students. (about six months)
* Ten years working in summer camps. Experience includes working as counselor, arts and crafts director and as summer program director. Additionally, I spent one summer as a cabin counselor at overnight camp for New Yoks inner-city elementary children.
* One and a-half years working as psychiatric aide in small psychiatric hospital. Responsible for observation, crisis intervention, personal needs, “field” trips, problem solving, and I actually assisted with electric shock treatments.
* Three months teaching a self-contained class of “Emotionally Disturbed” students at Morrisville School district that included two selective-mute students.
* Founded Target Youth, a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing weekend and week-long adventure trips for special education students.
* At LaSalle, I was president of the chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children where I developed and implemented the first annual “Play Day”, an event that demonstrated home “play” activities to limited communication and/or limited cognitive abilities students and their parents. I also student-taught severely profound handicapped, elementary and high school students.
