Hi - My name is Pamela (Pam). I am 62 years old and live on my own with my dogs who are now my family. I was a stay-at-home mom for 20 plus years and was very fortunate that I could be at home and raise my three children who are now young adults. They are all on their own now and live in other cities from me. Almost 10 years ago, I moved to my present home with my mother who had developed health problems that made it impossible for her to live alone. I had gone through a divorce and I wanted to help my mother so that she would be able to stay at home. I do not have any formal caregiver training, but I was my mother's companion, helped her with her medications, did all of the grocery shopping, cleaned the house, cooked her meals, took her to frequent doctor appointments, helped her with showering, helped her pay any bills, cared for her cat that she loved and had been her pet for many years, took her out to eat and shop so that she could enjoy getting out and being around other people. I did not have anyone come to our home and help us with anything. During this time, I returned to school and graduated as a paralegal. I then returned to the workforce after being out of the workforce for over 25 years. I made sure my mother was safe during the day while I was at work and then cared for her at night when I got home. My mother died suddenly one Friday night a little over 3 years ago. She had eaten her dinner as usual and was beginning to get ready for bed. I have missed her very much. I know how to give compassionate care to someone and I am very patient. I do not smoke or drink and I love being at home. I feel that I would be able to make a significant difference in someone's life so that they could remain in the home that they love.
