I have nearly 4-5 years of experience as a Care Companion. My first role as a CC included caretaking for an elderly woman (in her 70's) who suffered from dementia. Her family was, unfortunately, not around very much. Eventually (after approx. 2 yrs) her illness advanced to the point she needed constant care, thus she had to move into a nursing home. I entertained her, took her out and about, helped with grocery shopping weekly, basic cleaning and organizing her home, assisted with showers when necessary, made sure she had breakfast and lunch, did laundry, went for short walks in her neighborhood, kept a daily log book of her activity and kept in touch with her two adult children. I did this Mon-Fri 11am-3pm. My second CC role was for a disabled woman in her late 50's-early 60's. I learned how much of a difference I could positively make in the life of the client as well as for their family. In my second CC role, I was responsible nearly 30 hours a week for day-sitting, daily laundry/changing of bedsheets, assistance with mobility (walker/wheelchair), bathroom assistance, fed pets, cooked or brought breakfast, lunch, and dinner for her, daily assistance getting dressed and grooming, basic house cleaning, daily medication dosing, occasionally I did have to assist with appointments/transportation. Constant contact with next of kin. I enjoy doing this type of work. I'm naturally a very caring person who enjoys helping others, and am easy going/not difficult to get along with. Additionally, I recently was certified through the American Red Cross for Adult & Child CPR via a class I paid to take at the Morristown Hamblen EMS Station. I am currently looking for part-time work in this field.
