I have been a single mother from 1998 until now. I worked grave yard shift at Costco Wholesale so my family could watch her. I didn't feel good putting her into day care because she was a very difficult baby. My daughter cried all the time unless being held, She was allergic to almost every formula and was sick a lot the first year. I am very creative and love to find craft items to keep young children entertained. I like to be outside and believe in drenching my daughter in sunscreen even now that she is 17.
I've had experience in caring for my Grandmother whom which had Alzheimer's disease. My step mother and I switched every other day. On your day you would help grandma wake up and get her some breakfast and then give her the correct morning medication and really watch her, she learned how to fool us one time. I caught her throwing them in the trash (just a funny little trick). I gave my grandma her showers and helped her dress. Made sure she had lotion on and helped her with her compression socks- so many funny stories to share. Then I would visit with her and we would watch her favorite television shows and I would make her lunch. When needed I would help her to the restroom. I have cleaned up every kind of mess imaginable. I had my eyes opened wise but really appreciate having that experience. Then something special, I was the first grandchild and she remembered me and told me that she could still remember my baby face and then would whisper "you're my favorite". In time we finally had to take her to a living facility that specialized in Alzheimer patients because she deteriorated so much. It was so sad and I felt like I didn't have a purpose. She died shortly after.
