I'm 45 with a professional degree in Special Education as well as Psychology. Yet, I no longer work in the school system (by choice). I have a HUGE giving heart and it pleases me to help others, with a positive attitude!

I chose to be a caregiver for my grandmother. She became blind the last 5 years of her life (due to Macular Degeneration) as well as developing Dementia. I helped to care for her everyday for at least an hour, for a period of three years. She had 24hr. caretakers, so I'd give them a break each day when I spent time with her. We'd go for walks, go out to lunch, listen to music, feed the ducks, and enjoy our daily conversations. My special ed. background greatly helped because I was able to think of ways to make adaptations to her daily life so that she didn't have to 'give up' so much of her independence. My time was not paid because I insisted that it not be because she was family. I gained plenty of experience.

In more recent years, I was employed by a senior woman with Parkinson's Disease and cancer. Tasks I assisted with were: grocery shopping, paying bills, cooking meals, driving around to doctor appointments, painting her nails and providing good company.

I'd love to be a companion for your loved one. Tasks I'd help with are: encouraging physical movement (walks), mental stimulation (puzzles), communication, light meal preparation, monitor daily medications, drive to doctor appointments or local errands.

I'm typically available Mon--Sat. from 10 to 6 PM. Please let me know what days/hours you're seeking. My hourly rate ranges from $18. to 22. per hour.
