Daniel’s Bio

My name is Daniel Mathewson, and my wife and I moved to Spokane from Knoxville, TN about two months ago. I was given the opportunity by Eastern Washington University to teach freshman English and receive an MFA in English.

From 2004-2008 I was a peer tutor at Fulton High School in Knoxville, TN. This was an elective class where we learned about different intellectual and physical disabilities, then spent time at school and in the community with disabled students.

While receiving my BA at the University of TN Knoxville from 2008-2012, I was involved in a group called Capernaum Young Life. Through this program, we fostered a community with the CDC and ID students and their families.

I was an intern in Targu Mures, Romania during the summer of 2009 with a group called Livada Orphan Care. I taught English to different gypsy tribes and orphanages across the country, many of whom suffered from physical and mental handicaps.

After graduation in 2012, I took a job as a Teaching Assistant at Hardin Valley Academy in the special needs classroom where I became CPR certified and took trainings on how to manage "out of control" teens.. I created lesson plans, organized community and scholarly events, assisted in the Special Olympics, and educated high school students on what a good peer tutor is.

In 2013, I took a job as the Education Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the TN Valley. I managed multiple volunteers and employees in South Knoxville Boys and Girls Clubs.

Since then, I was accepted for graduate school at Eastern Washington where I teach Freshman English and work on receiving an MFA in English. My teaching and school schedule don't begin until the mid-afternoon, so my work schedule would have to be in the morning-early afternoon M-F. I would be very happy to pick up a part time job as a caregiver.

Attached is my resume, and it has the details of my work and school experience. References available upon request.

Thank you,

Daniel Mathewson
