Over 15 years ago I was introduced to one of my biggest passions in life, people in need of friendship and love. As a young girl I joined a club where we visited local nursing homes and homes for those who need extra assistance. My heart exuded joy as I interacted with people who were hungry for companionship. I recall sitting and listening to people’s stories and thinking to myself, I could do this for the rest of my life and be satisfied. I learned how to connect with people, how to bring out laughter they had forgotten was still alive within them. Having this opportunity at such a young age established great character traits in me and build deep compassion and kindness into who I am today.
Over the course of time, the club I attended no longer attended the homes, so my sister and I began visiting them on our own. As time went on I was able to shape my future passions around what I learned I loved at such a young age. I began volunteering at local nursing homes, providing activities and recreation for the residents. I also worked as a certified nursing assistant for several years and became a care companion to many wonderful people. My passion and joy has only increased in time. Tending to the needs of others is a beautiful opportunity to remind people of their value by something as simple as a smile or touch of the hand. Today I am perusing a degree in human services in order to continue on in helping and impacting the world around me.
