I began nannying in college my senior year to help with school expenses, and moving out. I worked for a family of 3 children (ages 3, 5, and 12) overnights on weekends, and made sure the three children's schedules were followed efficiently during the week. I took them to karate, gymnastics, and school during the week. Since then I have worked for a family in El Cerrito with special needs, and a family in Piedmont interested in conflict resolution. I worked for a year full time with the second family. I worked with their 1 year old son, and occasionally their 5 year old son. Combining my social work experience with conflict resolution/communication, and mind-body connection work, I created a niche for a new type of nanny. I realized that other women were nannying in my community to be able to do their social justice work on the side. We Read more began a project for nannies and families called the Peace Building and Justice Nanny Network. We have attended Sustainable Economies Law Center's Coop Academy for 2015. We are just getting our project off the ground. The idea is to support nannies and families by giving them a community to work with. I still nanny for the Piedmont family occasionally. I am currently a Transitions Case Manager in the Oakland Unified School District. One of my real passions is mind-body connection work, in which I work out of my personal office in Walnut Creek. I would like to return to the personal setting of engaging and empowering youth for the summer, bringing all of my various skills into the home.
