I have almost 25 years’ experience in childcare, from newborn through high school, and have kept my CPR and First Aid current for the same amount of time. My own experience includes having my own home daycare, having cared for the children of the ball players of the Washington Nationals during home games, as well as being the nanny for several families, for nanny shares and a set of twins. My educational background is in bilingual/special education, so I'm also able to assist children as they grow older, in homework, in the case you are looking for long term care. Above all, I'm also a mother of two great girls, ages 20 and 10. The oldest is now in college, but the youngest is a well-behaved, respectful girl who loves, absolutely LOVES babies and has always enjoyed coming to with me to work. I'm comfortable with walking and using public Read more transportation, but also enjoy driving to activities (I have an excellent driving record, and a van to install car seats.) I always search out community age related activities and expose the children in my care to different places and experiences. They will enjoy the zoo, parks, libraries, museums & places such as Union Station to watch the trains come and go. In the summer it's fun to berry pick at a local farm or play in standing fountains or water parks. I even find theaters that have free (or $1) G-rated movies which are fun to go to. I also have a limitless supply of "rainy day" activities which I bring in my bag of goodies. I play guitar and often bring it to let the kids "play" too, along with CDs and DVDs to sing and dance with. I also bring different toys, arts and crafts, games and other age appropriate activities. For days we are stuck at home, I follow and age appropriate "preschool" schedule. We speak Spanish and English in our household, and are learning Italian, as I believe it is important for children to be multilingual and have an appreciation for other cultures. My disciplinary style is simple. Contrary to common misunderstanding, discipline doesn't mean to punish; it means to teach, with daily instruction through gentle action, role modeling, play, and explanation. I have found children are happier when firm but fair boundaries are set in place, and when parents/nannies are consistent with consequences (time outs, loss of toy/activity, etc.) I'm passionate on raising caring and respectful children. I am a child magnet; they love me, and I am crazy about them, sticky hands, spit up, and all.
