Hey! Below is a bit more information about me, I look forward to getting to know you. EDUCATION: In 2012 I graduated from JMU with a B.A. in Psychology which included the study of child development. I recently moved back to VA from Oregon where I was in graduate school studying nutrition which included culinary skills and nutrition throughout the lifecycle. I also have a yoga teacher certification so I bring that mindfulness to everything I do and am skilled at remaining calm and soothing kids who feel stressed or are having a meltdown. I've also taught yoga to preschoolers before so I can offer that as well. Currently I'm a FT student at VCU studying creative comm. CHILDCARE EXPERIENCE: I have 10 years of babysitting experience for children ranging from newborn twin infants to elementary ages. I also worked as a summer camp counselor at a children’s art camp Read more for 5 summers. At JMU I worked with children on service trips to Costa Rica and the Bahamas where I taught English and planned outdoor team building games so I'm familiar with Spanish. I worked as a full time nanny for a family with two extremely active kids (preschool and elementary age) for three summers throughout college. I prepared lunches and snacks, cleaned, tutored, drove them to museums, summer camps and swim practice and played games indoors and outdoors, assisted with music practice and guided them on bike rides and nature walks. During college I babysat once weekly at a church for a group of about 20 kids, and played indoor/outdoor games with them and prepared snacks. More recently I nannied for a very bright third grader in Oregon who attended Montessori school. For two years I picked her up from school every weekday and drove her to ballet and soccer practice. We also stayed busy playing outside, inventing games, going to parks, reading books (and listening to audio books in the car), creating art and cooking healthy snacks/meals. I also feel comfortable attending to special needs. I even interned at an autism clinic in OR where I observed OTs engaging in sensory activities to help kids self regulate. I'm great about keeping up with light cleaning, packing lunches, bath time and maintaining a tidy home. I enjoy nurturing kids as they grow and develop and love the creative and active aspects of being a nanny. Personally, I love being outside, traveling, creating and reading.
