Many years ago, I chose to pursue a career that would give me the opportunity to work with, educate, and help our children become the best they can be, and grow into a productive, caring, successful adult. Choosing a career in education gave me that opportunity! I have been a classroom educator, as a Independence Facilitator, for over twenty years. All of my career, I have been employed with the Capistrano Unified School District, working in the districts various general education and special education programs. This has given me the opportunity to share with students what I feel is important and necessary for them to be motivated and learn the skills they will need in life, to achieve the life they desire. My perspective working with children/students is based on positivity. In all areas of childcare, I believe how the caregiver engages with the child, it should come from a Read more basis of a positive philosophy, whether it is to encourage a child in a particular, challenging situation, or redirecting the child whose behavior mght not be acceptable. Flexibility, warmth and patience,are also very important. Each child is so unique, no one manner of learning is the same! I have raised my own children to become self sufficient, successful adults. It was very important to me that they developed compassion for others, be it human or animal, and that understanding and generosity were essential to becoming a happy, well rounded adult. Having animal companions growing up, and all my adult life, is a great way to model compassion for other living beings. Over the years, much of my time, when not at work, has been spent outdoors, engaging in sports and nature based activities. Having lived in Laguna Beach for 25 years, the opportunities are endless! Hiking, biking, nature walks, SUP, kayaking,dog walking, gardening are all activities I enjoy at every opportunity! Indoors, reading adventure books, biographies of interesting people , arts and crafts occupy free time. I also love to cook and  be adventurous in the kitchen. I firmly believe in giving our children every opportunity to learn about their natural enviroment, hands on! Incorporating fun, outside activities they enjoy, they too, will learn to love the outdoors, and appreciate what it has to offer. Stimulating a child's mind, whether it be inside the home, playing a board game, or exploring the tidepools, is essential. We all want our children to experience a joyful life!
