I never planned on being a “Nanny” but after many years of an office administration career, I was looking for new opportunities and realized I missed being around children. Someone told me about care.com and after seeing the need I decided to give it a try. That’s how being a Nanny became a second career. I was surprised by the number of responses I received when I put my profile on care.com. I thought most people would be looking for a college age person with “nanny” experience, but I was wrong. Everyone who contacted me seemed to understood that raising a child themselves, is more experience than anyone else could give. I was very pleased. I started communicating with several families to find the right fit. My first family had a 7-year old girl who had 8-10 surgeries before she was 4 for various medical conditions. She had the same Read more Nanny/Nurse from the time she was born who was like a grandmother to her, but since her medical conditions were now taken care of, the family felt she needed someone a little more aggressive and active to help her catch up socially and physically. After meeting the family I knew this would be a good fit for me. I was with them for 2 years. Lucky her prior Nanny started working for a new family right next door with a newborn, which was very helpful during the transition. Then I was lucky to find a 2nd great family through care.com. They had just moved here from Amsterdam and had adorable 4-year old twin sons who I loved like they were my own. I was with them for 2 years as well but unfortunately they moved to Burlingame. I stayed with them through the move and for part of the summer, but had decided before that it would be too long of a drive and it was time to move on again. I do this because I like being with kids first and foremost, and like to work with families who appreciate the importance of giving kids the attention they need and deserve. I understand the busy, hectic lives of working parents, since I was one myself. During the time I’m with the children I like to create a calm, enjoyable environment. I’m loving, but firm. I like to be on the same page with parents as far as “rules”. I have references from my care.com families that I'd be happy to provide which will describe more what I did which each family. The most important thing for both sides is to find the right fit.
