Hello parents! My name is Liz. I have been working with children for the last 20 years--as a nanny for the last 5. I am incredibly patient and caring. I have a calm, gentle, playful presence. Above all, I value respecting children as unique, competent individuals. I am looking for a like-minded family who values the role of a nanny. I believe in direct, honest communication. My educational and teaching background (Tufts University and Pacific Oaks Children’s School) focused on progressive, emergent curriculum with emphasis on anti-bias teachings. I have also taken RIE and P.E.T. classes--both of which strongly influence my caregiving style. I view my role as a supporter and an observer to scaffold children’s natural development--I do not believe in controlling a child’s innate discovery of our world. I understand that for children especially, the value lies in the experience not the end-result. I acknowledge children’s accomplishments with Read more specific, warm observations such as “you worked so hard climbing up there!” or “I notice that you put a lot of detail into that train engine--tell me more about it!” One of my strengths is fostering strong emotional intelligence in young children. I approach conflicts with a no-blame, no-shame mindset and help children develop their innate empathy to understand how others’ are feeling. I approach boundary setting with love, empathy and a belief in natural and logical consequences. I support children to become intrinsically motivated in their choices. I enjoy exploring and learning about the world along with children--supporting their curiosity by answering questions as well as encouraging children to seek their own solutions. I love to learn about a child’s passions and to discover our shared interests. My favorite outings are the beach, Kidspace and the Science Center, but I think that days spent building with blocks & reading books are as valuable as those spent exploring the outside world. (Favorite books include Blueberries for Sal, Corduroy and any by Mo Williems.) I love the problem solving of my job--understanding what a child is communicating either directly or indirectly. I am never dismissive of someone's emotions--what may seem like a small problem to others is a big deal to the child. I believe in redirection and addressing the core issues not the resulting behavior. I’m experienced with children who have sensory integration problems (SPD), but I am open to all children (typically developing or not).
