Hello! My name is Ariel Berchtold! I am 30 years old and live in Chicago. I was raised by my grandmother and, growing up, she ran an out-of-home daycare, where she watched 12 children. I helped her around the house with after-school daycare duties, and babysat for four families in the neighborhood. I have worked with children of all ages, from infancy to 12 years of age. My passion is watching children grow and learn and - to me - there is nothing more magical than introducing a child to a new book, concept or idea. I love to encourage STEM learning in children by creating age-appropriate science experiments and math problems. My commitment to making education fun for children started when I was in college at Loyola University Chicago. In 2008, I was hired as a Youth Development Worker for a nonprofit organization called Youth Organizations Umbrella (YOU). In Read more this role, I was responsible for managing and educating 15-20 students, between the ages of 7 and 10 years old. I also have experience working with middle and high school-aged youth. In this role, I implemented after school curriculum, provided homework help, listened and mediated problems, and communicated the children's progress with parents, teachers and head staff at YOU. My first summer after college, I got a job as a nanny for a wonderful family, and I thoroughly enjoyed caring for their beautiful child, Della. My employment with the family ended when I relocated to San Antonio. After relocating, I continued to promote the growth and education of youth by volunteering with organizations such as Kaboom! and the Student Ambassador Program under SA2020. Last summer, I spent all summer caring for my niece and nephew (ages 5 and 8). We went to the park, traveled around the city to all manner of museums and kid-friendly places, and I taught my nephew how to swim. I am currently in the process of updating my CPR certification, and I would love to come work for you!
