Hello, my name is Haley and I am a student at San Diego State University. I have six years of experience caring for children and dogs. I speak English fluently and can communicate conversationally in American Sign Language. My sister was born with Cerebral Palsy and I helped care for her more and more as I got older. Caring for her required tube feeding, stretching, giving medications, transferring in and out of her wheelchair, and making sure she is comfortable and stable. I also helped raise my younger brother from infancy to six years old before moving to SD for school. I did everything from bottle feeding and burping to diaper changing to putting him to sleep to playing and helping him walk to teaching him motor skills and ABC's to helping him with his homework. I even helped potty train him. I have babysat for a family with a Read more little girl from 7 months to 2 years. I also babysat occasionally for other families with children ranging in age from nine months to twelve years, up to two at a time. I love taking children to play outdoors, whether in the backyard or at the local park. I think physical activity is extremely important for children, and I will encourage active play, as well as enforcing parental rules, restrictions, and daily routine. I worked at a dog grooming and daycare salon for six years caring for dogs of all sizes, strengths, and personalities, from feisty dachshunds and chihuahuas to tireless pit bulls and giant mastiffs. Duties included playing, cuddling, long walks, runs, feeding, giving medications, and cleaning up messes. I have also dog-sat at my home and at dogs' homes. I had a German shepherd/black lab mix of my own as a child and also have had cats. I love playing and cuddling with them, giving belly rubs, and going for walks and runs with able dogs. Last semester, I volunteered at the fitness clinic for people with disabilities on campus, and at the Copley Family YMCA as a basketball coach for kindergarten through second grade aged children. Recent references are available upon request for both child and pet care!
