I have enjoyed taking care of children for most of my life. I started babysitting at age twelve, and have been working with children professionally for eighteen years. I am still in touch with many of the families I worked for, some of whose children are now in college! For the past ten years, I worked as an assistant preschool teacher in several Montessori schools. I have also worked in a variety of other preschools as a substitute teacher, and spent a year in a Waldorf before and after school program, with children in kindergarten through eighth grade. I love teaching, as well as sharing my hobbies with children, which include writing, drawing, sewing, and baking. I encourage the children in my care to be active and use their imaginations, and while I'm not completely against television and electronic devices, try to minimize their use in favor of more meaningful Read more and beneficial activities. I have chosen to pursue a career as a nanny because, while I enjoyed teaching, I prefer to work with smaller groups of children, in a home setting, as opposed to a large classroom. As a babysitter, I enjoyed creating art projects and other creative activities for the children. I am a ballet dancer and visual artist, and love to share the joys of creative expression and creative movement with others. Watching children discover their own passions and helping them to further develop is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. In addition, I am an avid reader and knowledgeable about children's literature, frequently visiting libraries to find new books to share with the children in my care. Encouraging children to find joy in reading and writing is something I have always pursued. I have a BA in English, with a concentration in Creative Writing from San Francisco State. I also have a Montessori Primary Teaching Diploma from the AMI Montessori Teacher Training Center of Northern California, located in Mountain View, as well as twelve Early Childhood Education units from CSU East Bay. I have my own car, but as it is very small, will require use of an available vehicle if necessary. I have a clean driving record, and am safe and reliable. I also have current Pediatric First Aid certification from the American Heart Association. I will happily provide references as requested.
